FIGHT SWINE FLU WITH THESE FOODS


Vitamin A: Effective anti-viral vitamin. Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables like mangoes, carrots, leafy vegetables, spinach, sweet potatoes, apricots etc.
Vitamin C: Boosts the immune system and is an antiviral by blocking the multiplication of viruses inside our body. Megadoses of vitamin C have been shown to reduce the length and severity of colds and other viral infections. These should be taken under expert advice only.

Vitamin D: This is the newest discovery for improving the immune system and so much else in the body. The best source is early morning sunlight! Is is also obtained from eggs, cod liver oil, fish and mushrooms.

Vitamin E: Immune system booster. Effects enhanced when taken with Vitamin C. It is present in Brown rice, sunflower seeds, almonds etc.

Garlic: Contains allicin and selenium which are both anti-viral agents. Atleast 2-3 garlic cloves should be consumed everyday.

Probiotics: These are the several pounds of beneficial bacteria residing in our intestines. They are a critical part of our immune system. Fresh buttermilk, milk provide a good source of these bacteria.

Onion: Onions are an excellent antioxidant, and they contain anti-allergy, antiviral and antihistamine properties. Sulfur compounds in onions help to detoxify the body. Onions are a rich source of quercetin, a potent antioxidant. To obtain the maximum nutritional benefits, onions should be eaten raw or lightly steamed.

Tomatoes: Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, flavonoids and other phytochemicals which posses antiviral properties.

Licorice: Licorice is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial effective against yeast, fungi, bacteria and viruses. Individuals with high blood pressure however,should use licorice only under guidance of experts.

Turmeric– Possesses curcumin which helps immune system to fight all kinds of infections.

Broccoli: Broccoli contains twice the vitamin C of an orange. It contains selenium, a mineral that has been found to have anti-cancer and anti-viral properties. Broccoli is a modest source of vitamin A and alpha-tocopherol vitamin E. It also has antioxidant properties.
