5 foods to fight anxiety

In the last article, we read about how nutrition helps have better mental health. This article talks about how various foods can help fight anxiety.
1. Nuts
Almonds, walnuts contain vitamin E, essential
fatty acids which protect the brain cells and help synthesis of
neurotransmitters which have a soothing effect.
2. Milk
Tryptophan and few other essential amino
acids from milk regulate the synthesis of neurotransmitters dopamine,
epinephrine, serotonin etc. For these to work,
milk has to be sweetened with natural foods like honey, dates etc.
3. Turmeric
Turmeric contains curcumin which lowers
anxiety. It also strengthens the blood brain barrier and protects the brain
from the adverse effects of inflammation, which is at heightened levels in
those having anxiety.
4. Cashew nuts
Cashew nuts soothe the mind and help you
think better
5. Junk food
Most junk foods are either fried / contain excess sugar /
excess sodium / artificial additives. These exacerbate anxiety, have the risk
of increasing blood pressure, increase weight and weaken the immune system.
The key to managing better mental health is a holistic view
to eat better, make sure you are fit, seek help from counsellors and be
positive!
